Satisfied with being dissatisfied

I often like to speak candidly to students about how they are doing. Knowing what is popular is one thing, but also what isn't. I can only show students the way. I can motivate, give them the tools, but students have to go and do it themselves. At White Horse Tai Chi, we don't hold students back and nor do we spoon feed. If you can show me you can do it, then you're ready to progress. Students are encourage to think for themselves.

Recently, one of my students told me that he's satisfied with his dissatisfaction. Because it reaffirms what is good and what isn't. That is a very honest way of expressing his Tai Chi journey. It is also aligned to Chinese philosophy in terms of knowing and correcting one's self.

At the end of the day, I have to be honest about how well I think students are doing. It would be nice if I can go home and think that everything is going well. It is good to have doubts. Doubts keep you honest and grounded. If we have no challenges, then life would be boring and meaningless. Tai Chi and Qigong is a gift that keeps giving.
