Don't lose heart!

One of the things most students new to Taiji think, is how easy it is. However, they quickly find how challenging Taiji can be. Taiji looks deceptively easy, but appearances can be deceiving.

We presume Taiji is easy, because the movement is so soft and gentle. But when you actually try it, many find that it isn't the case. A lot of students find it frustrating when they first try Taiji. We are trying to achieve many things at once and it is rather like learning to drive.

We like things to be easily achieved, but in reality, that isn't going to be the case. Students often say in frustration, "oh but it's easy for you!" I totally understand where they're coming from. I wasn't born with these Taiji abilities and the journey wasn't without challenges. Learning takes time, because Taiji is a very sophisticated art.

My advice for new students, is to not lose heart. Take small steps and don't over do it. Don't worry if you forget something, we can always cover it again. All you need to do is ask. Before long, you'll get the hang of it. Once you've got the hang of it, you'd wonder why you were worried in the first place. Relax, take a deep breath and think positive.
