What do you see when you watch people practice their Tai Chi?
If you asked people what do they see when they others practice Tai Chi, you'd get a variety of answers. Some are impressed by physical prowess, the artistic grace, technical ability or their spirit. These are all positive qualities and we should be grateful for the opportunity to be inspired . To have any of these qualities is not easy, because nobody was born to possess any or all of these gifts.
Recently students commented on the colour and the flow of the movements by another student. Not often do people notice these qualities. I am please that students recognise these qualities as they are often missed. These are qualities that can't be imitated. To have this quality of movement takes dedication and an openness to learn. By learning, I don't mean to take simply the external look, but also to understand the inner meaning.

We train hard to get better in this art. If you understand how hard it is to get this far, then you should also appreciate the efforts of others. Tai Chi is an art, and art is not simply about doing something, but doing it meaningfully. As an art, how do you express your Tai Chi? However, art is subjective and no matter how hard you try, you can't please everybody. You don't need to please everybody or seek their validation. Personally, I've given up trying to please everybody and I'll feel happier that way. We each have our own unique Tai Chi journey.
