Don't overload your plate!
When one starts training in Tai Chi, the enthusiasm encourages you to take in a lot of information. This can be a good thing, but it can also be bad. Let me explain, you take in a lot of information re the history, the theories and all the things you do in class. followed by watching lots of YouTube videos. Before long you get overwhelmed by information. By which time, you feel low, as you cannot manage your own expectations. I'd admit I've been there and I've seen it in many people over the years.
The thing to do is to not overload your plate. Just take a few things from each lesson. No teacher will expect you to take in and digest everything. Besides, we'll cover those topics and techniques again. It is best to practice moderation. Take a little and often.
Here are a few tips and facts:
1. Mastery takes years, take your time.
2. Practice with quality, not quantity.
3. Nobody has all the knowledge and the best of us are always learning.
4. Take a deep breath and relax.
5. Don't train if you're not up to it. It might make things worst.
6. We all make mistakes, treat it as an opportunity to learn and re-learn.
7. Don't take yourself too seriously.
