You get the teacher you deserve
I have been informed today that my teacher for 14 years Katherine Allen, has sadly passed away. It has been a privilege to be one of her students. I came to her one January to start Tai Chi and it was my New Year's resolution to learn a martial art. I have been there every since. Although I've been teaching myself, I decided to continue to come to class. I like to learn and I like to help out. The years seem to pass so quickly, class, competitions, Tai Chi in the park, Summer Camp and then the Christmas and Chinese New Year specials. I will miss these events...
Katherine was a fantastic teacher and very knowledgeable about Tai Chi, Yoga, martial arts and general wellbeing. I've learned a lot over the years. I am grateful to Katherine for many things. One thing I remembered her saying was that "you get the teacher you deserve", in reference to our Master, Dan Docherty. As we Chinese often say, that fate and destiny brings people together. I knew I was very fortunate and I thoroughly appreciated all the support she's given me. Recently I saw another saying, when the student is ready the teacher appears. When the student is truly ready the teacher disappears. I accepted that that day will come. I will continue to train, teach and pass on her knowledge. Katherine will be missed by many and it is a great loss to the Tai Chi community.
Many years ago, I propose that I film the class doing our Wudang Long Form. It took six years to complete. I want to share this YouTube playlist with you and that I hope the memories live on.
Thank you for ready my blog.
