Class update May 2023
Welcome to the new edition of the class update. This is effective from May 2023. Please note that classes may be cancelled at short notice due extreme weather conditions.
What are the classes like?
Over the years, we've built up a friendly and enthusiastic group of students. Many have benefitted from attending classes and have even taken their practice and understanding of Tai Chi further. The classes are informal and the aim is to make learning fun and accessible. In order to maintain quality and safety, there is a cap on the maximum of 10 students per class.
On the subject of accessibility, there won't be a fee increases until 01/01/24 for my current classes.
Do you teach courses?
This is a question I get asked a lot. The answer is, no I don't. From experience and from observations. Tai Chi and Qigong don't lend themselves well in a course setting. Tai Chi is a very sophisticated art and it would be difficult to learn and digest in a set amount of time. Then there is the question of your schedule and whether you can make time to commit to this course. If you miss out on a few sessions, then you feel you're left behind. Also, you might want to ask yourself if a course provides value for money? At White Horse Tai Chi, we prefer a relaxed approach, where students come and learn at their own pace.
The timetable will be from May 2023.
St. Luke's Tunbridge Wells
New from spring 2023 is a class dedicated to just Qigong. Due to interest and demand, I have added a Qigong class which will run on Tuesday evenings.
We do include Qigong in my other classes, but we don't have enough time for everything. So it would be nice to have a class to enjoy just Qigong. We will go through various concepts and themes. I will also be offering the Immortal Family Eight Brocade set from the Cheng Tin Hung Lineage and Phoenix from Master Joe Lok.
There is parking at the church. Please be considerate, as this is a residential area.
Hawkenbury United Reformed Church
Classes at Hawkenbury United Reformed Church all year round. Classes will be in the large hall and both classes are suitable for beginners to intermediate.
From Summer 2023, I will be offering pushing hands, applications and Tai Chi weapon forms. However, these classes are only for my existing students.
There is parking nearby, if you're driving. Please be considerate, as this is a residential area.
If you're interested in joining these classes, please let me which class you wish to attend. In order to give students enough space, there will be a maximum of 12 per class, . Due to issues of no-shows, fees are required to be paid in advance. The fee is £20 for 4 lessons, or £7 for a single lesson*. I feel this would be fairer to those who do want to learn.
Tai Chi in the Park @Dunorlan Park
Saturday classes at Dunorlan Park will continue all year round. Classes may be cancelled due to extreme weather conditions.
Saturday*
10.30am - 11.30am - Beginners & mixed ability
11.30 am - 12.00pm - Private class
If you are interested in joining me, please feel free to contact me in advance. The fee is £5 per class. Payable on the day or in advance*. The group is currently for beginners and intermediate level students. I have set up a Facebook group page and updates regarding Tai Chi in the Park will be posted there. If it rains, we will meet in the space under the cafe.
* From 16/10/23, parking fees have been introduced. These apply to both car parks (Pembury Road and Halls Hole Road). The fee is £1 for 1 hour and £2 for 2 hours etc. Understandably, this may put students off and there does seem to be a drop in park users. The decision is not popular, there has been no proper consultation and local resident's opinions are not being heard. Hopefully, this will change.
A portion of the takings will be donated to the Dunorlan Park Seed Bank. This was something my late teacher did and I will carry on with this tradition.
Private tuition
I do offer private tuition and if you're interested, please contact me availability and let me know what you'd like to learn. Fees will need to be paid in advance and are not refundable due to late cancellations.
